Arsenal lose at Stoke as pressure on Wenger increases
Arsenal paid for some shambolic defending as they lost 3-2 to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium, as Mark Hughes's side held on for their fifth win in nine home games against the Gunners.
Peter Crouch poked Stoke ahead after just 19 seconds after slapstick errors from Calum Chambers and Hector Bellerin, before the excellent Bojan Krkic and John Walters put the home side three up at the break.
Bojan was convinced he had put Stoke further ahead when his shot beat Emiliano Martinez at his near post, only for referee Anthony Taylor to rule it out for offside. It appeared a harsh call on Stoke, however, as N’Zonzi looked level and Walters was clearly not interfering with play.
Having thought they were 4-0 up, Stoke then conceded a penalty when Mame Biram Diouf was adjudged to have clipped Mathieu Flamini; Santi Cazorla slotted home his first Premier League penalty.
And two minutes later, Aaron Ramsey struck the third goal of his career against Stoke to give Arsenal further hope. That hope dwindled when Chambers saw red for a second bookable offence with just over ten minutes remaining and Stoke held on for victory.
The win moves Stoke above Aston Villa in 12th but Arsenal stay sixth, level on points with Newcastle after the Magpies shock win against Chelsea.
